The Travel Diaries : Stornoway Lodge

Barely thirty minutes out of Johannesburg is a slice of paradise named Stornoway Lodge! Located near Lanseria, this newly renovated lodge with lakeside views and wild animals roaming just outside your bedroom window, is the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of Mzansi!

The Accommodation

While at the lodge, we stayed in a few different rooms of varying price ranges from the executive suite to the lakeside suite – all equally comfortable, modern and fully furnished for self catering.

The first night we stayed in the ‘Executive suite’ – which is perfect for a couple looking for a weekend getaway, tons of cupboard room, his and hers basins in the bathroom, a massive shower and bath-tub big enough for two – complete with jets! (Price : R1800.00 per night, breakfast incl.)

The ‘Lakeside suite’ was special not only because it was right on the water, but because there is a hot tub on the deck overlooking the lake, and animals – glass of wine in hand – it was a dream come true! (Price R2050.00 per night, breakfast incl.)

Their latest renovation better suited for families or big groups is ‘The Farmhouse’ which sleeps eight people comfortably. (Price R2400.00 per night breakfast incl.)

Activities & Attractions

On the property the lake boasts canoeing activities, an island style bar for events and entertainment, and for the kids – Mcdonalds petting zoo.

THE LION & SAFARI PARK :

For a full day out and a truly unique African experience we drove from the lodge to the Lion & Safari park. From a drive through the park and watching the lions at feeding time, to being able to pet lion cubs and cheetahs, to hand-feeding ostriches and giraffes! This place turned me into a tourist instantly – I could not take enough photos and videos!

The Restaurant

The ‘Fat Olive’ is on the same property as the lodge right on the lake, and is within walking distance of the suites. It is a small family owned restaurant, and you can taste the love in every bite – our biggest problem was that we didn’t ave enough space in our stomachs to finish all the delicious food!

With delicious food, tons of activities and luxurious accommodation, Stornoway Lodge has to next on your list of places to visit!  (http://www.stornoway.co.za/)
